In the face of evolving global threat -where national and transnational criminal and terrorist groups exploit digital technologies to target and disrupt critical infrastructure, thereby undermining state security and eroding public trust, ANTIC is fostering collaboration between national and international cybersecurity stakeholders in an effort to build a resilient cyber defense framework for Cameroon.

To this end, ANTIC and the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) which is a crucial platform for global cooperation among Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) are piloting a five-day workshop on Information Systems Security that has convened IT security administrators from across the public and private sector in Yaoundé.

The workshop which features sessions on cyber threat intelligence and crisis communication - two fundamental pillars of proactive defense and coordinated incident response, seeks to achieve three key objectives notably:

  • Build the technical and operational capacities of participants in managing and responding to cybersecurity incidents;
  • Promote stronger cooperation and information-sharing between public and private sector stakeholders;
  • Enhance the speed, coordination, and effectiveness of prevention, detection, and mitigation strategies.

In his keynote address officially launching the workshop today, ANTIC’s Director General, Professor Ebot Ebot Enaw, underscored the need for international cooperation in combating cybercrime, which has evolved from a localized challenge into a global threat given the interconnected nature of critical infrastructure.

Recognizing the value of such collaboration, Prof. Ebot Ebot noted that “Cameroon is actively working to align with international standards and its ongoing application for membership in FIRST represents a strategic step toward reinforcing our integration into global cybersecurity networks and partnerships.”

Further to this, he said the adherence of the national CIRT to FIRST will enable ANTIC to strengthen the resilience of our national cybersecurity infrastructures by tapping from FIRST’s impactful A4 (Actioning Alerts and Advisories) Initiative which provides national CSIRTs with free access to vital risk-reporting services, connects them with international cybersecurity experts during crisis situations, and offers practical playbooks for incident response and threat mitigation.
