State and local government personnel of the South West Region have been empowered with digital skills that will optimise their work processes, boost performance and productivity. The personnel drawn from South West Regional Delegations, Municipal Councils and Government Institutions were drilled on innovative software applications, data governance and cyber security during a three-day capacity-building workshop organised by ANTIC in Buea, 11-13 November 2020, under the theme: “ICTs at the service of public administration.”
Speaking at the outset of the seminar, ANTIC’s Director General, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw, stated that the empowerment of state and local government personnel with digital skills needed to effectively harness the transformational potential of ICTs for the benefit of their communities is government’s priority.
For government institutions to drive operational efficiency in the delivery of public services, they must embrace digitisation and innovative digital solutions tailored to facilitate the discharge of their specific functions, Prof. Ebot posited.
Given that digital innovations have the ability to help Cameroon leapfrog many of its developmental challenges, the seminar sought to strengthen the capacities of all stakeholders in the effective use of ICT tools with emphasis on information security and the protection of online personal data which are vital for an emergent Cameroon.
In this light, IT experts drawn from within and without ANTIC drilled the participants on the following themes:
- Data Protection and Electronic Certification;
- Information Security;
- Protection of personal Data and Online Privacy;
- Cybersecurity and cyber criminality Legal and Regulatory framework in Cameroon;
- Data Protection with Security Audit;
- ICT Applications, Products and Services using Office Software (Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Suite).
These themes brought in fresh narratives, innovative ideas and awareness on how participants could use ICTs to streamline public service delivery as well as security measures to adopt in the cyberspace.
